“This is truly a benchmark year for animal protection-themed films garnering Academy Award recognition,” said Beverly Kaskey, senior director of the Hollywood office of The HSUS and executive producer of the annual Genesis Awards. “The news and entertainment media in general have excelled this year at covering a wide range of animal issues, but a documentary film like The Cove is proof that even a tough animal issue like Japan’s dolphin slaughter can resonate with audiences when it’s at the heart of thrilling, cinematic storytelling.”
The Genesis Awards is a star-studded yearly event that honors individuals in film, television and print who spotlight animal issues and pays tribute to the major news and entertainment media for producing outstanding works that raise public awareness of them by incorporating animal protection themes or messages into their storylines, which help increase public consciousness and reminding us that compassion for animals is one of our core human values
The 24th annual Genesis Awards will be Saturday, March 20, 2010 at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif..
