McDonald’s and their PR gimmick that attempts to show they care about children:
South Florida students are getting ready to pick up their number 2 pencils next week as they prepare for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, otherwise known as the FCAT, reports CBS. But, they say, before the test, it’s important to give our children a healthy, well-balanced breakfast and McDonald’s has decided to help out.
On Tuesday March 9th only, participating McDonald’s restaurants in Florida will serve a free Egg McMuffin, bag of Apple Dippers and a milk or small orange juice to students under 15 years old and in grades 3 to 11. The free breakfast will be served from 6:00 – 9:00 a.m. Kids must be accompanied by a parent. Child must be present to receive offer.
This is the first year for this program which is designed to ensure children start off their test day with a nutritious meal.

Dear Partner In Education,
Oerther Foods-McDonald’s® understands how important a healthy, well-balanced breakfast is before taking an exam like the FCAT. On March 9th only (6-9am), we would like to ensure that children in your school start off their test day with a nutritious meal. Parents can bring their child to any participating McDonald’s restaurant in Florida, for a FREE Egg McMuffin®, bag of Apple Dippers and a milk or small orange juice (no substitutions).
This is the first year for this program and we are asking for your help to “spread the word” through your administration, teachers and organizations to all parents. I would ask that you share the attached flyer with parents, teachers and PTA members, but not directly with students as we want to allow their parents to decide whether or not they would like to take advantage of our breakfast offer. Please know this offer is for students in grades 3 to 11 and students under 15 years old must be accompanied by a parent. Child must be present to receive offer. Please make teachers aware, that due to the magnitude of this program, no group redemption is allowed. It’s important for us, as local business owners and parents ourselves, to feel that we are contributing to the well-being of our children in our hometown. It may surprise you to know that our apple dippers supply three times the recommended daily value of Vitamin C. Feel free to visit www.mcdonalds.com/qualityfood to learn more about our menu options.
If you are not currently participating in our McTeacher’s Night fundraising program, please contact us at comments@oertherfoods.com to start raising funds for your school today. Also feel free to view our restaurant locations at www.McFun.com. We wish your school continued success in educating our young people.
Sincerely From Your Partner In Education, Oerther Foods, Inc. – McDonald’s Oerther Foods, Inc. – McDonald’s

And this isn’t the first time McDonald’s has used school children as an advertsing vehicle. Two years ago another ill-conceived “deal” was struck between McDonald’s and the school board in Seminole County, central Florida. The promotion offered fast food as a reward to elemenatry school children who achieved good grades. Children with As and Bs, who had two or fewer absences or exhibited good behaviour were entitled to a free Happy Meal at their local McDonald’s, as long as they presented their report cards. Report cards which, incidentally, were sent home to parents in envelopes displaying an advertisement for McDonald’s!
We ask, has the world gone mad?
