Jasmine a 7year old Greyhound who was once abused and abandoned, is now surrogate mother to all creatures who come to Nuneaton Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary. She was found by policemen in 2003, locked in a garden shed and had needed all the love in the world to nurse her back to full health and to win her trust, then after a few weeks she was fit again and put up for adoption.
However, all the kindness and patience she was shown rubbed off and she decided to make the sanctuary her home so she could welcome in and care for new arrivals. It didn’t matter what kind of animal, all would be welcomed.
Jasmine will approach the animal, give them a sniff, lick and cuddle, grab them by the scruff of their neck in her mouth and put them on the settee – she does this with all the animals and so far has nursed five fox cubs, four badger cubs, 15 chicks, eight guinea pigs, two stray puppies and 15 rabbits – she even lets the birds perch on the end of her nose

Sanctuary owner Geoff said: ‘She simply dotes on the animals as if they were her own, it’s incredible to see – Having been neglected herself, it’s a real surprise to she her show so much warmth and affection to other creatures – it’s not just animals, she is great which children too, she is such a gentle, big-hearted dog.’
Jasmine also looked after a roe deer fawn called Bramble who was found semi-conscious in a field at 11 weeks old. Upon arrival at the sanctuary, Jasmine had cuddled up to her to keep her warm, and then went into the full foster mum role. They are inseperable. Geoff says “Bramble walks between her legs and they keep kissing each other. They walk together round the sanctuary. It’s a real treat to see them.”

NOTE: The sanctuary has launched an appeal to raise £300,000 in order to relocate to bigger space – should you wish to help, please see website for details
