It may sound like a new age guru catch phrase, but Lifesmart is actually a centre for well-being tucked away on a quiet street near London’s Regents Park. It is the brain child of Carole Caplin and it is driven by a unique ‘whole body approach’ to good health. Carole, or another member of the team, will work with you personally to assess the route causes of the symptoms you display, whether it be poor fitness levels, low energy levels, high stress levels or specific health problems such as high blood pressure, injury or being overweight. They then devise a programme tailored specifically to your needs, which draws on an extensive, and impressive range of practices, such as Homeopathy, Nutrition, Osteopathy, Sports Performance Conditioning, Correctional Exercise and Massage, to name but a few. They then work with you to achieve your health goals; always aiming to keep you engaged and motivated.
Ok, so I hear you ask what makes this different to any other gym that has a therapy centre attached? Well, quite a lot actually. Most gyms whilst they have experts on hand don’t necessarily link all of their therapists or trainers together, so whilst you may be treated by them individually there would be no one taking an overall view of your case so you won’t necessarily be treated holistically, which it is becoming increasingly obvious is the sensible way of operating. Secondly the callibre of individuals involved is impressive, Caplin has certainly amassed a crack team around her to support her in her work. I was particularly impressed when I spoke with both their homeopath and acupuncturist. They were both friendly and articulate and displayed a great knowledge of their subject.

But perhaps the greatest point that sets Lifesmart apart from conventional gyms is the environment which the team have striven to create. They promise a home from home, and this really is what they deliver. Each member receives an electronic key card so they can come and go as they please, the gym spaces are not vast lines of soul-less treadmills with MTV blaring out, but a carefully considered space with the latest machinery. There are lounge areas and a library so members can relax and read, and there is a fully functional and well stocked kitchen. The changing rooms are spacious and have fabulous power showers and the commitment to the whole body approach is further demonstrated with the use of organic beauty products, dressing gowns and towels.
Quite an impressive line up me thinks, so maybe it is time to get Lifesmart and visit the centre to find out more.
